In 2017, Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi as well as Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it became the most streamed single that time, within just six months. It was a combination of pop and reggaeton that not only brought new attention to reggaeton music, but also increased interest in Latin music. The Billboard Top 100 featured two songs in Spanish mainly, and four others in the year 2016. During the height of Despacito's popularity in 2017, 19 mostly Spanish songs made it to the Top 100, and in 2020 there were 41 songs. In the wake of Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in 2017, well-known musicians began to join forces together with reggaeton singers. Drake and Bad Bunny were part of a team on MIA (2018) in addition to Madonna and Maluma worked together on Medellin in the year 2019. In 2020, a few Reggaeton performers were complaining about how the genre was moving towards the mainstream. But, the younger generation, Rauw Alejandro wanted to keep the trend going. The genre often incorporated elements of different genres as well as electronic dance.
